System Center, The King of Hybrid


Hybrid is here to stay

Typical enterprises have complex configurations. Intelligent clouds will not solve these at least not directly. It requires a "runner", a move and a shaker to handoff to hand of payload to it.

What is required is efficiency in multiple disciplines for the on premises world. The disciplines of optimization, automation, visibility and control for those enterprises that will most likely never move to the cloud entirely, even if they wanted to. This will be the world of the intelligent hybrid.

Intelligence is required on premise

Since most enterprise customers will never reside natively in a public cloud, it is therefore essential that these customers inherit cloud-like benefits, but in their own datacenter. The principles under which the management framework must function must be consistent with those of the intelligent cloud from which it is derived. This "bringing" together of "things" on premise and "things" in the cloud requires heavy lifting that must be done within the enterprise datacenter before traversing the network to the intelligent cloud.

This heavy lifting or caching, is pivotal for the transference of resources,

customer data or reporting data between on premise and the cloud. Some examples of heavy lifting, is the continuous data collection of operations managing before it is sent for analysis. This type of hub and spoke hierarchy, ensures the efficient movement of reporting data and the timeous analysis as such.

Another example of heavy lifting is the caching and intelligent buffering of data backup data by backup technology before it is sent across the wire to the cloud for long term storage.

Consistency required on premise

Whether it is your data, security, change, or automation, maintaining separate vendor products to gain a cohesive control often produces the reverse effect. It produces complexity and any benefits gained are restricted to that particular discipline. For example, a backup product will only do backup well, it will never handle change management or the human processes involved in efficient backup.

Product alone will never produce transformation, yet the single most conversation between customer and vendor, is always "product".

What should be on the topic of discussion between vendor and customer is simple 'transformation and consistency'. Is consistency then possible in a complex hybrid environment? The only way this is possible is if the management products are designed with a single purpose that goes beyond technical features, it should extend to business processes as well.

If they were designed to deliver value technically and value by streamlining processes, this then becomes transformation. When tightly integrated, the skills and learning gained in one product can help with another which results in faster ramp up time to gain this business transformation.
